An Extraordinary Moment with Anais Nin
Monday October 8, 2012
- "The secret of a full life is to live and relate to others as if they might not be there tomorrow, as if you might not be there tomorrow. ... This thought has made me more and more attentive to all encounters, meetings, introductions, which might contain the seed of depth that might be carelessly overlooked.”
Anais Nin
Personal notes: my darling daughter Megan sent me this quote from Beijing which generated immense pride that (1) she has the awareness to notice the beauty and wisdom inherent in Ms. Nin’s words; and (2) that she knows me well enough to know I’d also resonate and learn from them.
A second note – even more poignant – is the quote arrived minutes after learning that dear friend, brilliant resource to CEOs and former ARC International Vice President Roger Fransecky, is dealing with a brain tumor.
Today we can be “friends” with an ever widening circle via electronic aids and there’s no shortage of distractions in our media-saturated world. I’m reminded to pay attention to those people near to me – certainly my friends and family but also the maintenance person in my building and the woman volunteering as a crossing guard near my business appointment this morning.
Waking up and really seeing our current reality is an imperative for deepening relationships and living an extraordinary life. Your comments and questions are more than welcome!
