Extraordinary Minute- 12/4
Wednesday December 4, 2013
“Love takes off the masks that we fear we cannot live without and know we cannot live within. I use the word love here not merely in a personal sense but as a state of being, or a state of grace – not in the infantile American sense of being made happy but in the tough
and universal sense of quest and daring and growth.”
James Baldwin
“Let us not love in word or speech but in deed and in truth”
John 3:18
I’m back! 28 hours of travel to get home yesterday and it was worth the pain. Great training experience in Almaty, Kazakhstan with some great people.
Most of my Extraordinary Minutes are grounded in pragmatism. I ask myself “will these words contribute directly to your living an extraordinary life?”
These two quotes are ultimately pragmatic; however they speak to the ephemeral quality and practice of love and loving. (Did you notice the bargain of the day? Two quotes for the price of one!)
I recommend re-reading the Baldwin quote, slowly and carefully. There’s lots of wisdom expressed in just a few words. Do let me know what you think by commenting below.
With love and respect,
