Go The Way Of The Peaceful Warrior
By: Robert White Wednesday January 8, 2014
“If you don't get what you want, you suffer; if you get what you don't want, you suffer; even when you get exactly what you want, you still suffer because you can't hold on to it forever. Your mind is your predicament. It wants to be free of change. Free of pain, free of the obligations of life and death. But change is a law, and no amount of pretending will alter that reality.“
-Dan Millman
I often resonate with the work of gymnast, college professor, Aikido Master, human potential expert and author (The Way of the Peaceful Warrior) Dan Millman. He brings a kind of Western sensibility to timeless Eastern wisdom.
The saying goes “there’s nothing certain except death and taxes.” I’d amend that to include CHANGE. Each of us is exposed to an often mind-numbing, even frightening amount of change in our personal, professional and community lives. Railing against it, pretending it doesn’t exist or making half-hearted efforts to adapt …. Does not work for us in creating the extraordinary life we were born to live.
Developing the mind-set, the attitudes, the flexibility to handle and even thrive when confronted with the massive changes facing us today and in the future is an imperative. As always, your comments and questions are welcome and appreciated.
