The Value of Young Leadership

By: Robert White Thursday July 18, 2013 comments

"The young do not know enough to be prudent, and therefore they attempt the impossible -- and achieve it, generation after generation."

                                                  Pearl S. Buck

Last week I facilitated a seminar in Asana, Kazakhstan and thoroughly enjoyed everything about the experience except the combined travel time of over 55 hours round-trip!

A specific value gained was meeting and working with the sponsoring organization’s leadership team – all under 28 years of age and all so very impressive.

Of course I was reminded of building my own entrepreneurial start-ups; though I was an old man of 32 when I did my first one.  The energy, focus and commitment I witnessed last week were a model for any of us who want to accomplish anything meaningful as an entrepreneur or inside an organization.

One conclusion as my grey hairs proliferate: if you’re “young” … pay attention to novelist Buck’s admonition and just do it.  If you’ve gained the advantage of some years and hopefully some wisdom, surround yourself with some younger folks.  Pay attention to their energy and ideas.  Have some fun!

With love and respect,
